How do I run motions during a meeting?

As a Partner Client, learn how to set up and execute simple motions during your Zoom Meeting using Zoom Polls or the Hand Raise feature.

Set up Zoom Polls in the GetQuorum Dashboard
  1. Navigate to Webcast > Polls > Add Motions.
  2. Select desired motions from the list of pre-determined options.
  3. Click + Add Poll to create a custom motion if unique wording is required.
  4. Input a title, question verbiage, and possible responses for the custom poll, then click Save.

Note: Custom polls can be added at any point during the Meeting and will update dynamically in the Zoom Meeting.

Run Motions with Zoom Polls
  1. Click the hand raise button to request a mover and seconder.
  2. Open the Participants box to identify the first two attendees who raised their hands.
  3. Click Polling in the Zoom Meeting controls.
  4. Check settings to ensure panelists can vote if there are owners on the panel.
  5. Click the down arrow to select the specific poll for the current motion.
  6. Click Launch Poll.
  7. Monitor incoming votes and keep the poll open until the vote count roughly reflects the number of owners on the call.
  8. Click End Poll to stop taking votes.
  9. Click Share Results to display the voting outcomes to all attendees and panelists.
  10. Click Stop Sharing to remove the results from attendee screens.

  5. Click Lower All Hands to clear the panel.

  7. Count and announce the hand raises in opposition.
  8. Click Lower All Hands.

Common Questions

  • Which method works best? Zoom Polls generally process faster than manual hand raises. Either option is effective if you review the process with your attendees at the beginning of the Meeting.
  • Are motions weighted or do they include advanced voting? No. Zoom Polls and Hand Raises operate on a strict 1 vote per attendee or panelist rule. They do not incorporate proxy holder votes, weighted allocations, or advanced voting data.
  • Can we get a report on the poll results after the Meeting? Yes. Poll reports automatically upload to the Shared Documents tab in your dashboard after the Meeting concludes.
  • Will owners who are ineligible to vote (i.e. in arrears) be able to participate in motions? Yes. Neither Zoom Polls nor Hand Raises can exclude specific in-attendance voters from participating in a motion.
  • Can I use Zoom polls for voting matters, such as the election? GetQuorum strongly advises against this. Zoom Polls lack support for proxy votes, weighted voting systems, advanced votes, and voter eligibility exclusions.
